Manchester University & Stockport College Exhibition Visit - OOTD

Two weeks ago we went to visit Stockport College photography exhibitions at the Chinese Art Centre Manchester, and then to Manchester University's to also see the photography exhibition with our photography course, but when we separated to wonder around Manchester Uni's other exhibitions, me & T.S went  to see the fashion exhibition as well.

It was a very hot and humid day to be honest, but overall the two exhibitions were amazing and gets me excited & look forward to university, T.S isn't really sure what she wants to do yet, but as for me, I really want to go, but I'm still deciding between places as I want somewhere which is more fashion based photography.

We have taken pictures of some of the things we have seen and liked at the places we visited, and the two of us and a fellow photography student, who wanted to be featured on our blog.

How to make a Henna Tattoo Choker Necklace by T.S

Recently I noticed that the henna tattoo chokers that we all love and know from our childhood were coming back into fashion. I looked around to find that they weren't cheap!!  Even when I bought some online they weren't what I hoped for or expected the first time round, they were loose, flimsy and had a metal chain clasp on the back. Which is not what you want to be wasting your money on, especially when you don't get to look before you buy! Therefor I decided that I would make my own instead and here it is. My step by step talk and walk through of how to make them. I hope you like!! Please comment and share!!

What You Will Need

Stretch/Magic cord

This can be bought at your local craft shop if your willing to look around and find out your options, but also you can buy them online from places like eBay, Amazon or online craft sites, but I've found the best places are eBay, you can get a spool of the cord for about 99p, which up to now is the best price I have found.

A Clipboard 

A clipboard is required to clip the end of the chord too while you make the choker, keeping it still. You can use a clip or if you don't have that then a grip like I did, to hold it against the folder I used to lean on.

Scissors

To cut the chord when you've finished.

A lighter

Preferably a safety lighter, with the long end. HAZARD WARNING: make sure you are supervised when handling fire, make sure someone is there or an adult to ensure you do not burn yourself and to help you burn the ends of the cord and stick them together. Be careful though depending on the type of choker chord you use it can get a bit messy and the melted area can get really hot so allow it to dry before touching. I made the mistake of touching it to see if it was hot and a bit came off on to my finger causing a blister under the skin, so be very cautious.

Follow these images below and they will hopefully help you too create your stretch choker.

Step 1

Clip your chord to something like a clipboard or anything you can find that is similar. Then follow the guide below on the bottom right until you feel you have mastered it.

Step 2

Once you have figured it out and repeated this you will end up with what you see below.

Step 3

You will now need to loosen the loops so they are more evenly spaced like in the images below.

Step 4

Congratulations!! Your almost done, now you will need to burn the ends and stick them together. CAUTION!! Make sure you have an adults supervision or some one to give you a helping hand as this bit is very tricky, messy and quite dangerous!! Always be careful when handling fire. 

And this is what it should look like. I know you can't see it very clearly, but I am also wearing an adjustable leather choker necklace which I made for myself. I will be putting up a step by step guide soon for you guys, if you fancy making one for yourself to customize with different charms.

 But what I found happen is that eventually the one I made because of the type of chord I used stretched out and became really loose on my neck from putting it over my head, so I just got another one from eBay as I needed one quickly, I know I did say it's not a good idea but if you are desperate or just can't be bothered then that's up to you, just be cautious because you don't always know what your going to get, but I personally will still carry on making my own and testing out different materials of chord (which I highly suggest you doing until you find the right one), as I generally enjoy it. As you can see below this is what I got the second time round dispite my disappointment at first, I really like it and I am at the moment trying to find the same type of material chord round craft shops as I think it is better..

Magazine Project By T.S

Hey Everyone

So as photography students, we were set to  create our own magazine, by doing a front cover and a double page spread, the focus was our images and its overall layout. Not to create a full magazine, but to go out shooting in different locations or our choice using every we had learn through the year to fit our chosen theme. I thought I would base mine around fashion and name mine Zarrmenay, changing it up by photographing a male model instead what we usually post so making it a kind of "men's addition". The model i used was my friend Thomas and the locations I used were of places around where i live, old rustic looking places such as a local little church, outside an old peoples home and at the dam between the hills at the back of my house, of which i used for my magazine. I will also show you the other images that i took and as well as the originals of the images I used in magazine... Oh and excuse my friend with his look of Blue Steel, if you've seen Zoolander you will get what i mean, but yeah anyway here you go...

Photolink Visit: 

We visited Photolink and was shown round the different departments, and how they work, we are planning to get back in to contact with them over half term and over the summer to volunteer there, helping out and gaining experience with fashion and photography.

With these outfits Black is a staple piece that you can just wear everyday & feel comfortable in even in summer why not who needs colour, but if colour is what you want you can twist it around with either a printed dress to keep it simple, a bright lipstick to make it stand out or a red bag to finish it off. 

One thing you never have to worry about is black not going with anything, nor does it get old or out of fashion, every situation, any day it is just right you can never go wrong. 

Black is something we love.
